As an astronaut on the International Space Station, Neil Armstrong had a chance to see what was happening in the solar system.

But his experiences in space also taught him about the dangers of the asteroid belt, which stretches from the asteroid Bennu to the asteroid Vesta.

As NASA astronauts on the ground, we were warned that if we touched a rock or other object in the asteroid belts, we would be exposed to cosmic rays, which could cause cancer.

In fact, NASA has estimated that up to 80% of space tourists are exposed to radiation.

What does the moon look like in the morning?

Astronomers have found that the moon is a pretty bright and beautiful place.

What’s the atmosphere like on the moon?

The atmosphere of the moon can be as thin as a sheet of paper and as thick as a skyscraper.

Here’s what the moon looks like at night.

Is there a moon that orbits the Earth?

Yes, there is.

The Moon is a gas giant orbiting the Sun, making it very close to Earth.

Is the moon an icy or solid body?

It is neither.

It is a giant moon, and like many of the planets it is composed of ice.

Is it surrounded by water?

Yes.

There are plenty of places on Earth where water exists.

It’s called the ocean.

Is there an atmosphere on the Moon?

There is.

It depends on where you are and what you’re looking at.

If you’re in the South Pacific, the Moon looks very, very bright.

If it’s a bright spot in the Southern Hemisphere, the moon may be covered in clouds.

Is the moon covered with water?

It may be, depending on where it is and what it’s up to.

If the moon’s surface is covered with ice, the ice is likely to be water.

If there’s no ice on the surface, there’s likely to just be dust.

Is this the Moon’s atmosphere?

Yes!

The Moon has an atmosphere, but the Earth’s atmosphere is much thicker than the Moon.

If something is in the atmosphere, it will affect your experience of space.

Is it a solid body, like Earth or Mars?

No, it is not.

The Earth is a solid planet.

There is no solid planet in the Solar System.

There’s no solid surface of the Moon, no ice, no water.

Is a meteorite on the lunar surface the same as on Earth?

Meteorites are made of rock and ice, but it depends on the size of the meteorite and the time of day.

Is Mars covered in ice?

Yes it is.

Does Mars have a liquid atmosphere?

The answer is no, not at all.

Is an asteroid a comet?

No.

A meteorite impacts a comet, and there is a little bit of dust on the comet’s surface, but there’s nothing there that’s solid.

Is Venus covered in liquid water?

No!

It is an ocean.

Does the Moon have a solid surface?

Yes (though it is subject to occasional changes of shape).

Are there clouds on the moons?

Yes there are clouds on Mars.

There may be rain on Venus, but that’s a temporary weather phenomenon.

Is a meteor falling on the Earth the same thing as falling on a comet’s tail?

No (or it’s not a meteor at all).

The Earth and Moon are not actually close enough to collide.

In the case of a meteor impact, the impact is so close to the Earth that there is little or no effect on the environment.

In contrast, when an asteroid hits the Earth, it produces a blast that is more powerful than the impact itself.

Are there any clouds on Earth’s moons?

No they’re not.

If clouds form, they can affect the quality of the atmosphere and affect the weather.

Is our moon a solid object?

No it’s just a gas body orbiting the sun.

It doesn’t have a crust, which makes it much more brittle than most other bodies.

Is Mars covered with a liquid or solid surface on the night of August 12, 2018?

Yes; that’s when Mars was captured by the Apollo astronauts.

It was a hot night and the lunar module was still attached to the surface.

Is that where you can see the moon going up in the sky?

Yes and it’s at the same time.

The moon was going up because of the bright spot that was just visible in the night sky.
